Fashion Careers 101 by Rosenthal Tee
Posted By: Admin - Tuesday, December 01, 2015
Insider tips on how to jumpstart your career in the fashion industry.
When Rosenthal Tee graduated with a Management Economics degree from Ateneo, she knew she wouldn't have the traditional career path of her peers. It was a risky choice. After all, Ateneans were notorious for taking safe jobs in big multinational companies. Eventually, Rosenthal found herself in London, where she took up a master's degree at the Instituto Marangoni and short courses at the London College of Fashion and at Central St. Martins. For three years, she learned her craft and the ins and outs of the industry. “London taught me how to be a collaborator; as a visual, the city is so vibrant with different fashions and cultures that definitely give you an appreciation to explore,” she says in a Preen interview.
Today, Rosenthal is one of the country's most sought-after bridal designers. Fresh off her stint at this year's Metrowear, she's also launched exclusive collections at Greenbelt's Myth and at AVA, the Globe-backed online retail platform for young designers and independent brands. And if those weren't enough, Rosenthal plays an active role in educating the next generation of designers as an instructor at SoFA, the country's leading fashion school.
Rosenthal's point on collaboration is spot on. Contrary to the widely-held belief that fashion is all about the creative genius, charm, and glamour of individuals, the fashion industry unsurprisingly requires strong collaboration among talented people from diverse fields. The fashion industry is made up of a variety of professional skilled not only in the creative fields but also in areas such as publishing, merchandising, and business.
There is rarely a straight path towards any career goal in fashion. Choosing your niche means not only finding the career that piques your interest, but one that matches your skill set as well. Most people in the industry start in one of three fields: design, media, and business. We call this the Fashion Trifecta.
Design involves creation - from the fashion designers to pattern makers and production specialists. Media is all about bringing fashion to life, from photography and styling, to publishing and merchandising. Business, meanwhile, is all about understanding how to turn a small collection into a scalable and profitable enterprise, often with the help of e-commerce and social networks.
So to help young fashionistas out, we’re bringing you a workshop on Fashion Careers 101, where professionals from the three areas of the Fashion Trifecta, will share inside advice on how to break into the fashion industry. Rosenthal Tee will be talking about how she started as a designer and entrepreneur, the skills one needs to make it in the industry and the struggles she faced when she was starting out. Venturing into the new avenue of e-commerce, she recently released her first street wear collection with and exclusively sold at AVA. Both believe in giving local designers access to the online market, and that its customers are ready and eager for what they have to offer.
Joining her is Filipino-Japanese celebrity stylist Ryuji Shiomitsu started out as a freelance stylist who decided to build his career in the Philippines. He has since gone on to style for the countries leading publications like Scout, METRO, Grid and Mega. He now has his own styling team, is the head fashion stylist of ETC and styles for major local fashion brands. He'll be talking about how he built his career and his brand in the Philippines today and the opportunities the local fashion industry presents. Also speaking is Oliver Segovia, an alumnus of Harvard Business School and the founder and CEO of AVA. For four years, Oliver was based in Singapore where he worked with Procter & Gamble Asia. In a regional marketing strategy role, he spent possibly the most interesting year of his life: selling Whisper feminine care pads. No, he didn't have to test the product. Oliver's also the first Filipino author to publish a book with Harvard Business Review Press.
Fashion Careers 101 is good for: Students taking up Clothing Technology, Merchandising, Multimedia Arts, or Marketing Students who want to break into styling, photography, or merchandising. Students who want to pursue further studies abroad in fashion, fashion history, or merchandising People in digital media, publishing, and advertising who play a key role in bringing the local fashion industry to life. Mid-career professionals who want to switch from a boring desk job to an exciting career in fashion, whether on the design, media, or business side. Designers and entrepreneurs interested in how to use e-commerce to scale their emerging fashion business.
This session is designed to give you industry insights on: The different career tracks one can pursue in the fashion industry, the skill sets & attitudes needed in pursuing a career as a fashion designer, stylists, and entrepreneur, first-hand accounts on starting your own fashion business, common misconceptions about working in fashion, the challenges faced by fashion entrepreneurs and freelancers, how to grow your fashion career from being freelance to professional, balancing creativity with technical and financial knowledge.
There will also be on-the-ground selling of select pieces from the Rosenthal Tee x AVA collection at the event. Payments can be made either in cash or credit card via Globe Charge.

MUA Spotlight : Chiqui Dingcong
Posted By: Tech Support • - Tuesday, July 14, 2015L to R - Vivian Castro, Chiqui Dingcong, Bes Santos |
Today we zoom in on Chiqui Dingcong.
Chiqui has been a beauty enthusiast and has been doing makeup on the side since 2005, back when she was still in the advertising industry.
She then decided to pursue it full-time and learned the basics in 2011 under Mikee Raymundo and Mio Robo at the Maquillage Professional School of Makeup Artistry (MP), which was then sponsored by the world-renowned French cosmetic brand, Make Up For Ever. She is adept in the art of airbrush makeup, a skill desired by many rising artists as she honed her skills under the tutelage of Ms. Kay Rodriguez; the celebrated Temptu Pro Philippines Ambassador turned Airbrush Diva Country Manager. As a M.A.C. Guest Artist, she has attended M.A.C. Pro Masterclasses under Gregory Arlt in 2013, Caitlin Callahan in 2014, and Romero Jennings in 2015. Chiqui has also completed makeup workshops by M.A.C., Make Up Forever, Inglot, Guerlain, L’Oreal, and Suesh Toolkit to name a few.
Some would say that nothing beats experience and this is something she has at her disposal as well. She has done fashion editorial works for Town & Country Magazine, Working Mom, Status Magazine, and GIST (a subsidiary of The Philippine Star), and has worked as a Guest Artist with international cosmetic brands such as Guerlain, Benefit, and M.A.C. to name a few. She has also been also part of various plays and musicals: Teen St. Pedro (The Musical), Addams Family, Rock of Ages, Grease, and Imaginarium, and have worked on quite a number of celebrities on photo shoots and campaigns headed by Mr. Niccolo Cosme. A real gamechanger, her passion for the art as well as the industry led her to become one of the founding members of United Make-up Artists of the Philippines (UMAP), an organization of professional make-up artists which she used to head from 2012-2014.
On the side, Chiqui is an avid fan of all kinds of Ilonggo food.

Thanks for all your continued support. Thanks to model: Ferina De Paz and HMUA: Jinx Aggabao.
Feel free to share:) Thanks!!
IMPORTANT NOTE FROM HASSELBLAD ON HOW TO VOTE:
• Users need to be logged in to the website in order to view the category galleries and vote on the images. This is to ensure that people only get one vote. If we allowed guests to vote without being logged in, this would allow repeat voting and produce a distorted and unfair result.
• Creating an account is relatively quick and easy, and if users don’t have any interest in hearing from Hasselblad in future, they aren’t added to the mailing list without opting in after sign-up.
• When creating an account, users are sent an automated email with an activation link. Users need to click this link to activate their login. This is to verify they have entered the correct email address and that the registration was not from a web robot. If you try and login before activating the account, the website will not recognise your credentials and allow access.
• If users do not receive the automated email after creating an account, it is more than likely to be found in the junk or spam folder of your email inbox.

Featured Makeup Artist: Suzette Riego
Posted By: Admin - Friday, June 26, 2015
Suzette Riego was born with a lipstick on hand. She has shown great passion for the arts since childhood from singing - to dancing - to painting which eventually transcended to her ultimate masterpiece - "Make-Up Artistry". Artistry is a gift & not too many are born with it. Zette as she is fondly called is one of those selected few who has boundless creativity on her craft. She can look at a photo, replicate it, or even make it better.
She started doing professional make up upon arriving in France back in 2003. However, She had to stop briefly to take care of family. But now she's back on the scene doing her passion & fulfilling her dream.
In June 2012, she launched on facebook her brandname "FaceArt by Zette". Her page served as her portfolio where people can view her creations. Soon thereafter offers came in as clients started to ask her services for Modeling & FashionShows, BeautyPageants, Private MakeOvers & ConceptShooting, Weddings, Entourages, Debuts, Soirées, Films, Commercials & MTV's. From then until now she has worked almost tirelessly. She has collaborated with the ParisGlamour season 1 & the Fashion Icons modelling event. She has worked with various international artist - models, high profile designers, beauty pageant contestants, professional photographers & videographers. She has also worked with a variety of magazines as well as judged a few pageants & sponsored a few events. She is continously working with various FashionWeekParis events. Moreover, she is a FOUNDER of the recent FASHION EXTREME PARIS event last september 2014. She has also been invited to travell across France & Europe doing various shows & gigs. Furture projects include working on the upcoming Fashion Extreme Paris 2 + more beauty & fashion related events coming up. Make Up Tutorial 5 is also in the works.
She is an active member of Coeurs à Coeurs Foundation & Pusong Pinoy Pransya Charity Foundation as she is also passionate in helping others. To her credit, she has done a series of (MUT) MakeUpTutorial by Zette events which has recently concluded it's 4th leg. This is a way of giving back & sharing the blessings through her God given talent.
She is currently the acting president of FAHMUAP (Filipino Association of Hair & Make Up Artists in Paris) and one of the busiest HMUA's in the community today.
